Hp officejet 3830 all-in-one cannot print but can scan

Hi there,

There seems to be a serious issue with my new printer. With all driver installed properly and completely, I still cannot print files from my computer with either case where USB cord is plugged in or USB is disconnected but wireless is used. I can use HP smart to do any other works except printing. Printing via iOS app worked well.

I have tried all the official troubleshooting tools and they did not help me at all.

Please help me with this issue. Sending files to my phone and print them on my phone is really inefficient. That's the only way I can utilize for printing Smiley Sad

Thanks in advance!

Perhaps the printer is other than the model you posted?

Hi ,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I understand you are having issues with your HP DeskJet printer not working after upgrading to Mac OS X 10.12. Don't worry we'll work together to find a solution for you.

I recommend you to perform the following steps as a workaround:

  • I did some research and found that for this printer there are no full-featured drivers available for Mac Sierra.
  • However, in an Apple update there are inbuilt print and scan drivers available for this printer model. Please follow the below steps to install the Mac inbuilt printer drivers.
  • Please download the Mac inbuilt drivers from this link: http://hp.care/2flF56z
  • From System Preferences, click on Print & Scan.
  • Click the Plus sign.
  • Select the listed Deskjet 3050A J611 series.
  • Click the drop-down menu next to Use or Print Using and click on Select Printer Software.
  • Select the Deskjet 3050A J611 series from the list.
  • Click OK to confirm your selection and add the printer, then try printing using the configured print queue.

Post performing the above steps, you may try to use the Apple Image capture and test the scanning. I hope this information helps.

For more assistance, please go through this link: HP Printers - How to Scan from the Computer (Mac)

Regarding the next issue. I understand that your not able to eprint after your iPhone is updated.

On May 31, 2017, the HP ePrint app retired from the App Store.

If you open the app from your Apple iOS device, a retirement message displays and the app no longer functions. Delete the app from your Apple iOS device.

Apple iOS devices support several mobile printing solutions. Try one of the following apps:

Let me know how it goes, Thank you.

Let me know how that pans out,

Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,

It's been a pleasure interacting with you and I hope you have a good day ahead.

Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.

I understand that you are unable to print from your printer, is that right?

Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own.

Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you.

Are you able to make a copy on the printer?

Recommend you try to make a copy on the printer.

If you are not able to make a copy on the printer, then it is a hardware issue and request you contact our phone support for any service options available for your printer.

If you are able to make a copy on the printer, please follow the exact procedure mentioned below to uninstall the printer software and settings and install it back on your computer.

Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)

Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)

Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.

Click on print server properties.

You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there, if any.

Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.

Restart the PC.

Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,

Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.

It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files, ignore them).

If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.

Restart the PC again.

Download the latest full feature driver from www.hp.com/drivers and install it on the computer.

Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.

Let me know if this helped.

I downloaded the software from 123.hp.com for my printer and I got all the way to the screen after it asks you to choose how you want to connect the printer. I selected USB connection but then it got stuck on the screen asking me to "Connect the USB cable" when it is already connected. Is there something else I have to do or download for the printer to register?

Trying to start up printer after longtime storage

$

This printer has been stored in its box for quite some time; I'm now trying to get it up and running.  So far it's been plugged in, turned on and the ink cartridges installed.  But it seems to be cycling through the on/off cycle, i.e. the display window shows the hp logo on a blue background with the gray bar moving, but every 20 seconds or so the orange exclamation point lights up and the screen goes dark before immediately coming back on.

I hope to be able to use this without attaching the cable to a modem or router, instead just using either USB or Ethernet cables direct to my MacBook Pro.  If this isn't possible then I won't bother continuing, but if it is can you tell me whether what's happening at start-up means the printer isn't salvageable anyway?

Final question is that I'm assuming I can get the drivers online because my laptop doesn't have a disk drive?  Again, if not possible I won't bother continuing with the troubleshoot.

Thanks very much!

Re: Printer not connecting via USB

Thank you so much for getting back with me! I unplugged the USB cord and redownloaded the software from the website. I plugged the cord back in when the software was trying to find the printer and the printer came up and I continued the download. However, when I went to the page asking me how I'm going to connect the printer and I selected USB, the same thing happened where the cable is plugged in but the screen is still stuck on telling me to "Connect the USB Cable." The only options it gives me is to either go back or to continue the installation without connecting the device, both of which I've tried doing to repeat the process. So the printer is installed, but not connected. I've tried using the HP Print and Scan Doctor, but it only prompts me to download the software, which I have already done. I also tried, both before opening the HP Officejet 5740 series set up and while on the page that says "Connect the USB Cable," to disconnect the printer, turn it off and on again, then reconnect the USB cable, to no avail. I also checked to make sure it wasn't plugged into a USB 3.0 slot and it was not.

Hi ,

Good Day. Thanks for visiting the HP community. I reviewed the post regarding issues with a printer error that shows up even after uninstalling the printer. It will be a pleasure to assist you here.

Commendable diagnosis, superb troubleshooting and splendid description of the issue before posting. Hats off to you on that score. Smiley Happy

.For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did you try to perform a root level uninstall and check again?

For now please try these steps:

  • Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
  • Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
  • Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
  • Click on print server properties.
  • You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
  • Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
  • Restart the PC.
  • Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
  • Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
  • It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
  • If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
  • Ignore the Regedit option if it cannot be done.
  • Restart the PC again.

Then check if it gets resolved. Otherwise please try to clean or remove the file remnants by using a third party software like Revo Uninstaller or CCleaner. This should do the trick for you. Please download it from only reliable sources don’t click on any ads, links, popups, images or downloads on the third party sites.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, please.

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes.

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up"button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as Accepted Solutionas it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care and have a blessed week ahead. Smiley Happy

Hi ,

Thanks for the update,

I appreciate your time and efforts,

As I understand you have tried the steps suggested and still having the issue with installing the software. Don't worry as I have a few other suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.

Let's try a clean install and try. Follow the steps below:

· First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.

· Go to Control panel – Programs and feature –Select all the HP DeskJet printer entries and uninstall them.

· Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.

· Restart your computer.

· Click the bottom-left Start button on desktop, type device manager in the search box and tap Device Manager on the menu.

· Once in device manager, click on the view tab in the top & choose “Show hidden devices”.

· Then from the device manager list, check the entries under “Printer” – If there are any entries, please right click and choose “uninstall” – In the confirm device un-install pop-up, make sure you select the box which says “Delete the driver software for this device".

· Also, check the entries under "printer queue" and "imaging devices" and repeat the same exercise. Delete any printer entry or any entry which says, “Unknown device”.

· Once done, close device-manger. Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.

· Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.

· Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

· Once done you can try cleaning out your temporary files and cached files. You can try using automated applications like some cleaner software's that you can download from the internet.

· Now restart your computer again.

· Open the Run window again, type “services.msc” and press ok to get services window.

· Scroll down to “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” – right-click and go to properties. Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.

· Now scroll up and go to “Function Discovery Provider Host” – right-click and select properties – Change the startup type to “manual” and start the service.

· Repeat the same exercise on “Function Discovery Resource Publication” as well.

· Click on  http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/dj3630/DJ3630__Full_WebPack_1107.exe and install the software.

· Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

If you are still facing the issues to remove the driver, then try using a 3rd party software removal applications like "Revo uninstaller" or "Wise" to completely remove the programs.

Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again
