Re: OfficeJet Pro 7740 - Device Not seen

Hi David -

Finally returned from travels and trying to set up the printer / scanner with all due patience:

(1) Operating system is (was) MAC 10.7.5 - just to note - it's a bit out of date

(2) I reset the printing system in MAC  Systems Pref - and found the Printer, and added it. Unfortunately it adds only as a printer  - not recognised as a scanner. So the Sys Pref screen I see when I use my Mac (version 10.12.6) is as followsScreen Shot 2017-09-02 at 11.35.46.png

Having reset and installed the Office Jet 7740, the screen I see on my wife's Mac is as follows:

Screen Shot 2017-09-02 at 11.38.52.png

As you can see - no scanner option.

I then went to the software and driver downloads page as suggested. I'd actually done this before but deleted all the previous downloads before starting again to ensure I had a clean start. The only driver available on this page for this machine is ReadIris Pro 14 for HP, so I downloaded that again and installed the software.

I launched ReadIris, and clicked on the Scan Icon - and recieved the error message "Unable to Open the Twain data Source"

I also tried HP Scan. This was already installed since the previous printer was an HP ENVY 120.  I tried using this, employing the dropmdown menu to "Browse Scanners". Unfortunately it does not see the HP 7740.

I tried scanning from the 7740 to the computer via the control screen on the printer, but it cannot see the computer

I gave up on this trail of solutions and installed Mac OS Sierra (10.12.6)

I then went to Sys Pref, deleted all printers and reset the printing system.  That worked. Here's the screen from the second Mac now:

Screen Shot 2017-09-02 at 13.10.18.png

I can now access scanning from Sys Pref and use  HP Easy Scan, and Read Iris as well - all functional.

I think maybe HP should just alert folks that some printers / scanners wil not work unless you have the latest OS.

Thanks -

Peter

Printer Not Picked Up By My Computer

I have been trying for a while to connect my printer wirelessly to my mac, but have had no success.

Having looked through all the support sites I have attempted many solutions, but I have been going in circles...

1. Checking that my "wireless button" is on. As far as I know my printer does not have this button.

2. Changing my the channel of my wifi so that my printer can be found more easily (There are lots of different wifi routers in the same building as me)

3. Turning wifi and printer off and on again.

4. I read about pressing the wireless and information buttons at the same time to get the printer IP address, but I have nether of those buttons.

Please help me! I'm at my wits end!

Hello, – Greetings!

Welcome back to the HP Forums, I'd be happy to help you with your printer connectivity issue Smiley Happy

I understand that you are having issues while connecting the printer to the MAC. Let’s first assign a static IP to the printer. Here are the steps:

  • Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
  • Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
  • Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
  • Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
  • Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
  • Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)
  • Restart the printer and then router once done.

Now, try the steps below to reset the print system and to add the printer to your MAC:

  • Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
  • Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
  • Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
  • Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
  • Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
  • Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
  • Restart your computer and then go back to System preferences – Printers and scanners.
  • Click the “Add button” (+).
  • Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.
  • Click “Print Using...”, and then select the name of your printer (By default “AirPrint” would be selected)

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Good luck Smiley Happy

Hello,  – Greetings!

Welcome to the HP Forums, I'd be happy to help you with your printer issue Smiley Happy

I see that you are facing issues while trying to print to the Envy using your Windows XP machine.

Let’s first try to fix this issue using HP Print and Scan Doctor (PSDR). PSDR is an automated tool which can diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. Please go to http://hp.care/2bZ9w2q to download and run HP PSDR. Once you open the program, select your printer and click on “Fix Printing” to automatically diagnose and fix the issue.

If the issue persists, then try the steps below to reinstall the drivers:

  • Unplug the USB cable from the printer and computer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Add or Remove Programs – Select all the HP Envy printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Now click onhttp://hp.care/2rpBprB to download and install the printer drivers.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Good luck Smiley Happy

Hello, – Greetings!

Thanks for engaging in the HP Forums! I see by your post that you are having issues with the scan to email feature on your Officejet printer. I will certainly do my best to help you fix this issue Smiley Happy

First off, if you need to disable the scan to email feature, then I'd suggest you disable the web-services on the printer. This will also disable the instant ink & ePrint feature of the printer (If you have subscribed to these services). You can follow the steps listed here: http://hp.care/2q1GQeu

Also, if you would like to correct the issue and to setup the feature correctly, I would suggest you setup the email profile via printer EWS page as suggested below. Try the steps below:

  • Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to obtain the IP address.
  • Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
  • From the EWS, click the Scan tab.
  • Click Scan to Email Setup.
  • Click Outgoing Email Profile, click New, and then enter the email address you intend to use with this profile.
  • Enter a display name that will appear on the printer's control panel to identify this email profile.
  • Enter or confirm the correct SMTP server and SMTP port information.
  • If you typically have to enter a username and password to log into your email account, you will want to enter this information into the email authentication fields, and then click Next.
  • Enter a security PIN to restrict access to this email profile, if desired.
  • Set the size for email files and specify Auto CC, if desired.
  • Click Save or Save and test to complete the profile.

Check http://bit.ly/2jH6UMz page 14 for more details.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Cheers Smiley Happy

Remote Procedure Call Failed message when trying to install the driver for MFP772DN on Windows 10

$

We received a new HP pagewide Pro MFP 772 DN printer.  It is set up with a network connection and fixed IP.  When trying to install the print driver, downloaded from the HP site, and using the TCPIP option, the install fails with the following message.

Network Printer Wizard

Unable to install printer

The remote procedure call failed.

OK.

It seems that varying the install has no effect on the outcome.  I suspect that it has something to do with the registry or legacy printer files.

What does the error code actually mean? I've tried your steps with no success.

The last time I used my printer it was fine. It's been powered off for a couple of months and now I have flashing lights on startup with error code C2FE016E.

Thanks
