Hi Antfreer.

What program are you using for scanning?

On Windows 7, you could try Microsoft's Windows Fax and Scan:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-files/i-need-help-finding-windows-fax-and-scan-its-not/c15af428-d90b-412c-ae3f-f820dcff098a

I ran it on Windows 10 and didn't see an option to make another program open after a scan, so it may work better for you.

Note that HP Photo Creations is designed for creative printing; it doesn't include a scanning fuction. To import scans (JPEG or PNG format), you'll need to save the files to your computer and then open them within HP Photo Creations. Here are directions:

Hello,

Did you try to use the HP Scan & Capture and Windows Fax and Scan apps to try and scan?

Also, while installing the printer on your new Windows 10 PC, what is the error that you are getting? If possible reply with the screen shot of the error.

Thanks, I will watch for your reply!

, It's great to hear from you again.

I appreciate your efforts for trying out the steps.

As you mentioned even after trying out the steps your printer is not getting detected.

You cannot install the drivers from the CD as the drivers are not compatible with windows 10.

Try the steps recommended below.

Remove any icons for your printer from the Devices and Printers folder.
If your printer connects to the computer with a USB cable, disconnect the cable from the printer.
Turn the printer off and on again, and make sure that it is in a ready state.
Search Windows for devices, and then click Devices and Printers in the list of results.
Right-click the printer icon () for your printer, and then click Remove Device. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
If multiple icons exist for the printer, remove them all.

Refer this article to further troubleshoot Windows 10 Built-in Driver Failed to Install.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Take Care! Smiley Happy

Hi ,

Thanks for stopping by the HP community. A very good day to you. Smiley Happy I reviewed the post regarding assistance with the printer not connecting to the network with Windows 10 and Windows 8 PCs. I will be delighted to assist you here. Smiley HappySuperb description and stupendous diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. Smiley Happy

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require information regarding this:

  • Did you run print and scan doctor and check if the issue gets fixed?

For now please try these steps:

  • Please run print and scan doctor from this link: http://hp.care/2syjvp6;  and check if the issue gets fixed. If it does not then:

Please uninstall and reinstall the printer software by following these steps:

  • Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
  • Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
  • Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
  • Click on print server properties.
  • You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
  • Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
  • Restart the PC.
  • Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
  • Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
  • It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
  • If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
  • Ignore the Regedit option if it cannot be done.
  • Restart the PC again.

Then download the latest full feature driver from http://hp.care/2vAR8ti and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.

  • Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
  • Please uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers on both computers having Windows 10 and Windows 8 installed. Then check if the issue gets resolved.
  • If it does not, then perform only these steps 4,6 and 7 from this printer offline document http://hp.care/2vBsmJI and this should do the trick for you.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. Smiley Happy

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care now and have a terrific week ahead. Smiley Happy

Welcome to HP Support Forum. I hope you're well

I read about the printer issue that you are facing and wanted to stop in to share my suggestions with you Smiley Happy

I understand that the printer is giving error once connected to the wireless network. It could be an issue with the router wireless frequency to which the printer is connected to.

This printer operates primarily in 802.11b/g mode with 2.4 GHz. It could be possible that the router is in 5.0 GHz and hence is giving the error.

You can log in to the router EWS page and change wireless mode to 2.4 GHz 802.11b/g and check for the issue resolution. Contact the ISP if unsure about the steps.

If the issue persists, then try to update the printer firmware. You may need to use a Windows or MAC PC to perform the firmware update. Go to http://hp.care/2oO05vr to download and update the printer firmware.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Good luck Smiley Happy

Having problem connecting Hp 6968 printer to XP computer

I have the printer connected to a router with 3 computers linked by ethernet and another linked by wireless.

I have installed the printer and have 2 computers printing just fine. The first one is a desktop running ethernet connection with Windows 10, the second is a laptop with Windows 10 and I am printing wireless from that one.

The problem I am have is with two XP computers which will not even read the

installation file either by downloading or from the installation disc that came with the printer.

Is there a fix for this? HP tech support has not been able to help me.

can't install printer

I had to reset the win 10 OS after the blue screen.  afterward i downloaded the driver from HP.com for the HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Printer series Full (EN4500_198.exe).

I went thru the install, and at the connection option I chose "wireless". it found my printer and went thru network printer installation. then the next screen came up with "unsucessful network installation".  I tried to do the connection thru USB and got the same message "printer connection unsuccessful". after i clicked on the cancel button, i selected "search HP online resources for solution....." I clicked next to run the "troubleshoot HP installation failure-usb". after I clicked on the start and select HP envy 4500 printer icon, it puts me right back to the connection option screen.

I tried to run the HPdiagnosticCoreDll and still did not work.

I opened the window settings and found HP86177F (HP ENVY 4500 series) driver is unavailable. there are only 2 options; Manage and Remove Device.

I also found this error message but don't remember which steps caused this: "The printer is not compatible with a policy on your computer that blocks NT4.0 drivers."

from the HP smart app, I can use the printer to scan docs, but the printing option is not working.

2 years ago i was able to install the printer without any problem. I don't know what's changed since i am still using win 10 OS.

Thanks for your help.

Hello DVortex,

Yes, I have tried scanning from various application, including HP's own Scan and Capture. None of them find any available scanners.

Here are the installation steps I have followd:

1. Launch the installer and select Connect New Printer from the first dialog.

2. Select "Wireless - Connect the printer to your wireless network and internaet" and click Next.

3. The installer searches the printer but does not find it. It comes back with a dialog suggesting that the printer needs to be connected to the wifi and turned on etc. On that same dialog there is a question "what status do you see at the top of the wireless information screen displayed on the printer". I select th option "I see the status is Connected and the signal strength".

4. At this point another text box appears on that dioalog asking for the IP address shown on the printer display. I enter 10.0.0.50 and click Next.

5. Installer searches for the printer but does not find it. It comes back suggesting for common fixes such as ensuring that the IP address is correct, which it is. Here's that creen shot:

Unable to find the printer dialog

6. At that point the program goes to a loop: If I click search, it returns back to the same dialog after having attempted finding the printer again.

7. If I click Setup, this dialog is shown:

HPWirelessConnection.png

8. I have tried clicking the Show Network Setting button which results to text "Unable to retrieve" being shown next to the SSID name and password. This is expected as this computer is connected to the router with an ethernet cable. The printer is connected to the same router via WiFi.

9. On this dialog I respond - thruthfully - "Yes (the blue wireless light is on solid" and click Next. Another dialog titled Network Check shows up for a while. As the printer is not found I am shown another dialog asking "What status do you see at the top of the wireless information screen displayed on the printer". I select "I see the status is Connect and the signal strength". Again, a text window is revealed into which I can once again enter 10.0.0.50:

HPNetworkConnection.png

10. I click Next. The installer looks for the pirinter once again without being able to find it. The program returns to the screen I attached after point 5.

11. I have already covered what happend if I click the Search and Setup buttons on that dialog. If I click the Cancel button, I see a dialog "Search for Solution":

HPSearchSolution.png

12. If I select the "Search HP Online resources..." and click next the software says it is downloading a solution for the error. After a while the installer returns to the initial screen on which I can select whether to connect to the printer wirelessly, via direct Ethernet or USB cable or Connect later. If I try the (correct) Wireless option again, the whole process repeats exactly as I have described above, without being able to install the printer.

13. Please note that the only way I can exit the installer is to select the option "Connect later - Do not connect the printer now. I will connect it later."

eprint not working....

I just installed this printer onto my computer.  In the instructions that came with the printer, it did not provide very specific instructions on how to set up a wireless connection to print.  I plugged in the usb to set up my printer and that seemed to work however I still cannot get wireless.  I then registered and figured out how to get a claim code.  I did all of that and now it is still not printing wirelessly.  I then looked at the instructions online and it said that if I plugged in or installed my printer with a usb connection first, the wireless would not work.  To me that is bogus and should be fixed, what company allows that to happen!!!  So far not impressed unless someone can help me fix this.  Do I need to uninstall first and then do all of this emal set up all over again?  I only got this printer so I could use wireless, if I couldn't use wireless or have it set up properly I would have paid for a cheaper printer.

Deskjet 2060 unable to scan

Had issues printing from my laptop, did some searching and found that the printer wants to be the default printer in Windows. Changed to default and printed fine. Then attempted to scan and nothing. Ran HP Print/Scan Doctor, which gave green checkmarks on all elements and downloaded updated software. Did a "Test Scan" from the HPPS Dr and the software reported that it could not find the printer. Interesting, as during the HPPS Dr software test, the scanner sounded as if it moved normally inside the printer and the green power light was bright.

Checked all drivers using an independent driver check software, HP software showed up to date.

Can't install driver properly

So when i was using windows 7 it was fine i installed the drivers using the CD and able to print instantly

Now recently i've upgraded to windows 10 64bit and install the drivers using the CD keep in note the CD says its windows 10 compatible so everything went well but the catch is everytime i tried to print its unable to do it, so quickly i went to device manager and press 'update driver' after couple of minutes it says "the printer driver is not compatible with a policy enabled that block NT 4.0 drivers"

After the error i decide to download "HP print and scan doctor" in that program it downloaded the file and drivers when that's done the final step was windows trying to detect printer, on that step my windows disconnect then reconnect the printer but on the program it says its unable to connect

So after doing so i decided to uninstall all drivers from that app, after it restarts my computer i put the driver CD back in follow the installation now here's the catch it's stuck on the detecting printer which is the last step of installation

At this point the printer is available on the device manager but when i try to print (right click an image then print) the printer is no where to be found i tried using the doctor app it didn't help either

So im frustrated right now because i really need to print somethin

thank you!

Best regards

zeus
