Where's da firmware?

$

HP Security Bulletin Document ID: c06097712, subtitled "HPSBHF03589 rev. 3 - HP Ink Printers Remote Code Execution," says, "two security vulnerabilities have been identified with certain HP Inkjet printers. A maliciously crafted file sent to an affected device can cause a stack or static buffer overflow, which could allow remote code execution." It goes on to describe a resolution of the problem: "HP has provided firmware updates for impacted printers as set forth in the table below. To obtain the updated firmware, go to the HP Software and Drivers page for your product and find the firmware update from the list of available software."

But when I go to the software & drivers page, all I see for this printer is the HP Easy Start app, which is already installed? So where's da firmware?

cannot update firmware on HP 1536 printer

Downloading the 2014 version of firmware from the HP website, I get a data dump in Safari's browser window. Using Chrome, I did download a .rfu firmware file but I am unable to open it. Assuming it is a good download, I need to know how to get that file into the printer to replace the printer's current 2012 version of firmware.

Instant Ink Question

Hello,

I just singed up for an instant ink plan and I would like to ask whether a 'used page' will be accounted if I use the cartridges that came with the printer or any other cartridges I will purchase in the future? I would also like to know whether I can swap between the instant ink and my own cartridges while the plan is active and whether a 'used page' will be accounted if I use my own cartridges?

Thank you

Hello Jeet and thank you for your lengthy response.  I carried out everything you listed to the letter but it still has not worked - still says "driver is unavailable"

so, in response to your request for more information:

I have not recently made any changes on the printer before the issue started (the issue started when i replaced the pc with a newer model) - I can print wirelessly from my ipad and iphone but not from the new pc.

any attempt to print from the pc just sits in the print queue.  No error message appears when i try to print.

I have installed the latest windows updates.

the printer worked perfectly from the pc and also wirelessly when it was connected to my old pc.

the copy and scan functions also work fine.

Also; i have replaced the usb lead with a new one just in case that was faulty.

I still have the disc for the printer but that did not work either when i uninstalled and then re-installed using the disc.

any further assistance would be gratefully received - are you saying that this printer SHOULD be backwards compatable?

 thanks and regards

HP Deskjet F2430 printer won't pring

I have a 1997 HP Deskjet F2430 all in one printer.  I downloaded drivers to update the printer.  Now it won't print at all.  The que says that there is one document pending, doesn't print and the que says there are no documents pending.  Doesn't make sense to me.  My printer has always printed.

This started AFTER my husband borrowed my printer, connnected it to his laptop, then he told me it wasn't working.  I don't know what he did but now it won't print from my PC

Long story short, I can't figure out how to send a fax on my 8715.  I think the key is to find the shortcut or app on the control panel, but I don't see one.   Can't even figure out how to set up the fax?

I just did a check and even if it was the ink that came with the printer, it accounted 1 printed page.

Good Day.  Thank you for taking an interest in the HP community. I will be glad to assist you and let’s get right to it. Awesome deductions and efficient diagnosis of the issue. It is amply appreciated.

Let me gather some information for better clarity to assist you correctly:

  • Did you perform any troubleshooting?
  • What is the operating system associated with the printer?
  • Is it Windows or Mac?

I will be providing a roadmap with some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. Let us try these steps:

Then uninstall and reinstall the printer at the root level by if the OS is Windows following these step by step instructions:

  • Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
  • Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
  • Go to devices and printers, in the control panel and select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
  • Click on print server properties.
  • You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
  • Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
  • Restart the PC.
  • Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
  • Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
  • It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
  • If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
  • Ignore the Regedit option if it cannot be done.
  • Restart the PC again.

Then download the latest full feature driver from   https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-officejet-pro-8600-e-all-in-one-printer-series-n911/4322914/model/4323658 and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.

Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.

This should fix the issue.

Also, try a different ethernet cable as the cable may be faulty.

Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. :)

Thank you for responding,

It's great to have you back ;)

Follow the steps and restore the network defaults, once done, perform a wireless set up wizard from the printer.

To reset the printer network settings, complete the following steps:

1.On the printer control panel, touch (Wireless), and then touch Settings.

Touch Restore Network Defaults, and then touch Yes. A message appears stating that the network defaults have been restored.

2.On the printer control panel, touch (Wireless), touch Settings, and then touch Print Network Configuration to print the network configuration page and verify that the network settings have been reset.

Set up the printer using the Wireless Setup Wizard

The Wireless Setup Wizard provides an easy way to set up and manage a wireless connection to your printer

from the printer control panel.

1.Set up the printer hardware. See the getting started guide or the setup poster that came with your printer.

2.On the printer control panel, touch (Wireless), and then touch Settings.

3.Touch Wireless Setup Wizard, and then touch Continue.

4.Follow the display instructions to complete the setup.

5.After the setup has completed, the network printer drivers can be installed by opening the printer's HP folder in Programs or All Programs, clicking Printer Setup and Software, and selecting Connect a new printer.

You may also follow this link for further reference. :)

Let me know how that pans out.

Re: Print failure even after supposed correction with HP Print and Scan Doctor 5.1.

Dear David,

Thanks for your comprehensive solution.  Let me start by saying that I have solved the problem.

In answer to your questions, it was not after a power failure or surge and I did update the firmware.  I knew that the printer was working well as I had installed that software on another computer (Windows 8) and the printer worked perfectly with that computer.  So I knew it was a problem with the printer software installed on my computer running Windows 10.

The problem turned out to be a conflict with another HP printer software previously installed on my computer.  I had installed the HP Envy 5660 printer software on my computer.  After I delete this device and its drivers from my computer and the HP Advantage 3835 worked perfectly.

So I think you should add this as one of the causes of failure of a new printer to print that is not identified by currently available troubleshooting tools, this is conflict with a previously installed HP printer on the computer.

Once again, THANKS.

I wish you very well and it it is awesome to hear from you again. You've done some commendable troubleshooting and it is indeed appreciated. This is music to my ears and I am glad that the issue is resolved.

The uninstallation process that I have given actually removes all printer entries from the computer and when a new reinstallation happens there should be no conflicts. That is the reason it is called a root-level uninstallation and reinstallation.

Now trust me I've done all I can to assist you here by keeping your best interest in mind. It has been an absolute privilege to share this platform and a genuine pleasure to work with you.

Welcome to HP Support Forums.

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

I understand that post the firmware update, your HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer is malfunctioning. Thanks for describing the issue in detail to me.

If the issue started right after the firmware update then it is evident that the firmware is corrupt on the printer. Therefore, I would suggest you to perform a semi full reset on the printer to rollback the firmware update.

A semi full reset will restore the printer to it's original factory condition. A private message has been sent to you with the semi full reset steps.

Hope this information helps.Keep me posted.

Good luck!

Welcome to HP Forums. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

I have gone through your Post and I wold like to help

Let's start with a Printer Reset

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.
(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed

Are you able to make Photocopies?

Uninstall the Printer driver from Root level and download the Full Feature Software and the Firmware

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
6.) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the “Drivers” tab

10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

Thank you for posting on HP Forums, MKazi is at your service.

I understand that while installing your HP ENVY Photo 6255 All-in-One Printer on your Mac computer, you happened to rename it. Now the printer appears to be disconnected. Secondly, you would always like the printer to print on plain paper and set it as defaults. Not to worry, I'll be glad to assist you with this case.

First, please ensure that the printer is connected to the wireless network. The wireless light on the printer should be solid blue. You also run a wireless network test on the printer by following the below steps:

If the wireless test passes then you may perform the following steps to remove and re-add the printer as Airprint:

Step 1: Remove multiple printers from the printer list

Check for multiple devices in the Printers list, and then remove any extra entries other than one in idle status.

  1. Search the Mac for Print, and then click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners in the list of results.

  2. Find the printer names that match your printer from the list of devices.

Figure : Printers and Scanner window with multiple names of a printer in the list

Printers and Scanner window with multiple names of HP Photosmart 7520 printers shown in the list
  3. If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button  at the bottom of the list. Leave one 'idle' printer in the list that matches your printer if available and use this printer as the Default printer.

  4. Try printing again.

    • If the printer prints, you can stop troubleshooting.

    • If the printer remains offline or displays an error, continue to the next step.

Step 2: Delete the existing print queue and add the printer

Remove the printer queue from the list of printers, and then add it again. Doing so creates a new printing session.

  1. Make sure your Mac is connected to the Internet.

  2. In the Printers list, click your HP printer, and then click the Minus button  to delete it.

  3. Click the Add button .

  4. Find and select the name of your printer from the Printer list, and then click Add to add your printer. Do not select an HP Fax driver.

NOTE: If your printer does not display in the list, make sure the printer is connected, turned on, has power, and is ready to print.

Figure : Example of the printer selection list

Image: The Add window showing a selection of printers with one model selected.
  5. Click Print Using or Use.

  6. Select AirPrint.

Figure : Menu showing AirPrint selected

    Image: Menu showing AirPrint selected

Your new printer queue displays in the Printers list in an Idle status .

Figure : Example of a newly added printer in the Printers & Scanners list

Image: The printers and scanners windows with one printer in the printers list
  7. Try printing again.

    • If the printer prints, you can stop troubleshooting.

Secondly, please refer to this HP document, it offers steps to select the correct paper type, etc and also set the presets if you want the printer to print with the recommended settings.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Keep me posted for further assistance.

All the best!
