I resolved the issue by resetting the printer with these steps:

Press *(star) and # (hash) together on the printer and let go.
Key 1 then2 then3
Press the right arrow key until the onscreen menu shows System Configuration
Press OK

For reference, the printer is connected to a Windows 10 Pro PC by an USB cable.

As I understand you are facing issues with installing drivers for the printer.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Are you trying to install the driver from a user account, which is not an administrator account?

Does the printer works fine with any other devices?

Meanwhile follow this link and try installing the Universal print driver.

Let me know how that pans out.

I hope you have a good day ahead,

Hello, - Hope you are well Smiley Happy

Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums! I’d like to help!

I understand that you are printer offline issues on your HP Envy printer. Do not worry, we have a new HP Print Scan Doctor application which is capable of fixing the specific printer offline issues. This can also assign a static IP address. Download the PSDR and follow the steps below:

Download link: http://hp.care/2nFmPZE

Steps:

  1. Run PSDR v5.0.2
  2. Once the PSDR detects the Printer, it will show up the IP address and Software Status.
  3. Select the correct Printer and click on Next.
  4. PSDR will check if the Printer is on the Network and communication between the PC and the Printer. Once the connection check is done, click on Fix Printing
  5. Once PSDR goes through all checks and automatic fixes, click on Print a test page.
  6. Regardless if PSDR printed the test page or not, click on NO PRINT”
  7. PSDR will then notify you that there is an update available, click on continue, and PSDR will apply the patch and ask for a reboot.
  8. Post restart the PSDR will run automatically to check for more issue. If no issue found close PSDR.

If the issue persists, then let's try to disable the IPv6 on your printer and then assign a public DNS. Here are the steps:

•    Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
•    Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
•    Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
•    Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
•    Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
•    Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Good luck Smiley Happy

Hi, I got confirmation that this model is supported 10.13 and macOS should automatically detect and download the drivers. Please check this documentation, make sure you have the latest version of High Sierra installed. I will try to provide screenshots of the process soon.

How can I download printer software and drivers when running Mac 10 13.1?

Thanks very much for the information and steps.  I am definitely going to have her install PSDR because I think it will be useful for any future issues with the printer.

I had planned on updating this issue because I spoke with my daughter this morning and the problem is now fixed (at least for now).  I had the idea that since HP Smart was correctly communicating with the printer that she should try printing a document thru the HP Smart app.  When she tried that she got an error message:

"The selected printer is detected but not installed completely on your Windows system.  You must install the printer software to use the Print feature of this app."

It then listed the exact steps to follow to install the driver/software.  This made complete sense since I had mentioned that it seemed like we had screwed up the printer driver in the process of trying to re-install it.  My daughter followed those instructions and it fixed everything.  She is can now print from Word, etc like normal.

I think if she had had PSDR already that this would have been a much quicker/simpler process.  Also, I know that she is going to have to unplug the printer over Christmas break, so I'm sure she will have the problem again when she returns after the break.  I will have her install PSDR and I will also look at using your instructions for Manual DNS Server so that the problem doesn't occur anymore.

One of my computers at home (I have this same printer at home too) has the HP Printer Assistant app, which includes the Print Scan Doctor as one of the tools.  Would it be better to try and install this to get all the other features of the HP Printer Assistant?  If so, can you provide a link to where to install that?  One my computer at home is just seemed to install automatically when it was updating the printing services.

Thanks again for the help on this.

Hi

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out Smiley Happy

As I understand you are facing issues with the printer's driver software after updating to Mac OS Sierra 10.13.1

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Was it working earlier before you did this update?

Is it completely not working or just printing doesn't work?

Meanwhile you could try the steps given below:

Step 1: Restart the printer

Restarting the printer might temporarily resolve the issue so that you can quickly finish any important print jobs.

  1. Turn the printer off, and then wait 5 seconds.

  2. Turn the printer on, and then wait until the printer is ready to print.

  3. If needed, print any important print jobs.

Step 2: Disable IPv6 on the printer

If the printer is using the version 6 Internet Protocol (IPv6), set it to use IPv4 to reduce the chance of connection errors.

Use the menu on your printer control panel to set IPv4.

  1. From the home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Wireless icon .

  2. Touch the Settings icon , and then touch Advanced Settings.

    Figure : Advanced Settings menu

    • If IPv6 is set to Off, the printer is already using IPv4. Skip to the next step.

    • If IPv6 is set to On, touch to turn it off, and then touch Yes to confirm.

  3. Try printing from AirPrint.

Step 3: Turn off Internet Printing Protocol over HTPPS (IPPS)

Change the Internet Printing Protocol over HTPPS (IPPS) setting.

   CAUTION:

Turning off Internet Printing Protocol over HTPPS disables encryption of print jobs. This is not recommended for printers in public locations.

  1. Print a Network Configuration Page, and then locate the URL(s) for Embedded Web Server.

Figure : Example of the EWS URL on the Network Configuration Page

EWS URL on the Network Configuration Page
  2. From a computer connected to your network, type the entire URL into an Internet browser, and then press Enter. If the webpage remains blank, try a different Internet browser.

Figure : Example IP address in the browser

Example IP address for the printer typed in the browser

    The EWS displays.

  3. Click Network, and then click Internet Printing Protocol.

The Internet Printing Protocol screen displays.

  4. Clear the Internet Printing Protocol over HTPPS (IPPS) box, and then click Save.

5.Try printing from AirPrint.

Let me know how that pans out.

I hope you have a good day ahead,

Yes, it's an "oldie" but I keep it going.  Recently it stopped printing in sequence:  by that I mean I had to restart the printer for the machine to complete a job.   Finally I deleted the program (had to do this before) and now I can't get an install.

The machine will not recognise a "wireless" connection...but...more than that whn I connect by USB the message says it's waiting for me to connect.  I have:

    1.) changed cables

2.) Connected on the front and back of the (1 year old) Dell PC.

What have I done wrong, please?

After a recent windows 10  automatic update download, I am unable to connect to my printer and attempts to re-download my software and driver from the CD of the printer has been unsuccessful. Downloading it from HP Support Assistant also is unsuccessful as it lags/stops-- before full download of the software/driver.

    Any help?

    Hi

Welcome to the HP Forums Smiley Happy

I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

As I understand, scan icon on your desktop gives an error message,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

Were there any recent hardware/software changes made?

When was the last time it was working fine?

Step 1: Download and Run HP Print and Scan Doctor: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/patches/HPPSdr.exe

Step 2: Uninstall and reinstall printer drivers:

    • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP OfficeJet printer entries and uninstall them.
    • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
    • Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
    • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
    • Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

    To reinstall, Click Here.

Let me know how that pans out

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And feel free to ask any other queries as well.
