Printer won't print from laptops

I installed H & R Block Tax software for 2016 now I cannot print from the laptop. I can print from my IPad just fine. I bought a new anti-virus software and tried to install in on my other laptop. I had to get a technician to repair the laptop. Not sure what I have to do yet about printing. He is still working on it 2 hours later. Any help will be greatly appreciated. the laptops are both Toshibas . One is 2 years old and the other is just 1 year old.

Re: HP ENVY 4500/Mac Sierra v10.12.3 scanning error

,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you are unable to scan from your HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Printer after upgrading to Sierra 10.12.3. I also see that you have tried installing all the scanning software and also uninstalled and reinstalled the software.

This issue could occur if the scanner mechanism has failed or the scanner is not connected to the computer.

Let's go through a few steps to resolve this issue.

In order to isolate if it is a hardware issue with the scanner, please make a copy from the printer and let us know the results.

If the copy is fine, you may follow the steps to set up the printer as listed below:

1. Uninstalling HP Printer Software (Mac)

2. Download and Install a Driver for a USB Connection

If you want to setup the printer on the wireless network, you may follow the link: Wireless Printer Setup (Mac)

Let me know how this works.

You have a good day ahead.

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you want the full feature drivers for your HP Photosmart 6510 e-All-in-One Printer - B211a to work with MacOS 10.12 Sierra.

Let's go through a few steps to resolve this issue.

You may download and install the software from the link: Full Feature Software and Drivers

Note: This software is compatible with MacOS 10.12 even though the heading shows as  OS X 10.9 Mavericks.

Let me know how this works.

Re: Failure on Install of HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M477 Software

I am having the same trouble. just bought it today and nothing!!!

Re: Scans but won't print

The tip about both printers showing up under a single icon was helpful - I don't get it, why would 2 different printers (fax and regular) be selected  from the same icon in Devices and Printers?  Anyway I digress on that because it doesn't matter to the problem at hand.

Did everything again with permissions.  No change.  Still won't print without opening Word/Excel/Acrobat/etc as administrator.

On the PRINTERS folder, the user CREATOR OWNER keeps resetting to "Special Permissions" no matter how often I click "Full Control" then Apply.  Not sure if this makes a difference though.

This printer and Costco are about to be reacquainted and my credit card balance reduced.  This is getting beyond ridiculous.

Re: Printer says it's not connected

This worked perfectly, thank you so much!

I need to change the print settings so I can print in color

I need to pring in color but all it does is black. Can't figure out whare to make the change.

I FINALLY FOUND THE ANSWER!!!!!!!!!!!

He/she is my new hero.

In short, you have to make sure that the "Users" group has been granted Full Control of your TEMP directory (or if you're in a domain, apparently, which I'm not, "Authenicated Users").  I, like many others, had moved my TEMP directory away from the default location (off of my SSD boot drive and onto a secondary drive).  For some reason  it doesn't matter if you are in another group that has Full Control (such as Administrators), apparently there is something about HP printers (and it's clear from the boards it's multiple HP printer models, but not all, and has been a problem for many years), that require the "Users" group to have full control of the TEMP directory (which the Windows default directory does, but if you move it the new location does not unless you change it).

So here's the directions to fix:

Hit Windows-R

Enter "%tmp%"

Note what the full path is  (in my case, it was "D:\Temp")

Go up one level in the directory tree

Right click on the temp diretory (in my case, "Temp" from D:\), and select "Properties"

Go to the Security tab, and select "Users" from the group or user names

Click "Edit"

Select Users, then check the box by "Full Control"

Click "Apply"

You may get a whole bunch of error messages about inheritance, just hold down the Enter key until they all go away.

Click "Cancel" a couple of times to dismiss the properties boxes

Go forth and print from any application you want without having to "run an administrator"

Profit

Re: printer not found

The printer is a device that communicates with another computerized device to print that content what a client sees on our computer. During the printing job, the “Printer Not Found” error occurs means don’t worry about it. It is very simple to resolve this issue.

Re: Print and Scan Doctor stops part way through

Thanks for your patience and your continuing advice.

The steps 1 to 6 that you list in your response are the same things that I did before my last email to you in order to delete all instances of HPPSDr.exe on my computer.  Nevertheless, I tried it all again, but I still experienced teh same problem.

You say I should "install" Print and Scan Doctor.  I am not entirely sure what you expect to happen.  On my Windows 10 system, if I start with no copies of HPPSdr.exe on my system, download it from your FTP site into my Downloads folder, then "Open" or "Run as Administrator", before running it puts a copy of itself into C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\Diagnostics\PSDR, together with an icon file  PSdr.ico.  It also puts a shortcut icon onto the desktop (although a default microsoft icon, not its own).  However, it does NOT subsequently appear as an installed programme in Control Panel>Programs and Features.  Not does it put an entry into the start menu (at least, I cannot find it).

Whether on the initial run whch does that "installation" or subsequent runs from the shortcut on the desktop, the outcome is the same - it always stops at the step "Windows (WIA) Scan"

There is one thing I have observed.  I have only one physical printer connected (via wireless), namely my HP Envy 5646.

This is set as my deault printer and has the name "HP Envy 5640 Series (Network)" when it appears in Control Panel>Printers and Devices, or in the list of printers available within applications (e.g. in Microsoft Word) or in PSDR.  In addition I have a number of virtual printers including HP ePrint, Microsoft PDF writer, Send to OneNote, etc.  When I run PSDR , then at "Choose your product" its shows three printers:

1.  HP Envy 5640 Series (Network)  192.168.1.89

2.  HP ePrint

3.  HP Envy 5640 Series (NET) 192.168.1.67

Number 1 is the one I have been checking.  PSDR communicates with it, but fails to complete the scan checking as I have said.   If I choose  2 or 3 its says that it cannot communicate with them. which is not surprising.  I think number 3 is somehow left over from a previous installation of the printer software etc - it does not appear in Control Panel>Printers and Drivers or in the list of printers in any application, only in PSDR.  Could this "ghost" printer be causing the problem?  How can I remove it?

Sorry for the continued correspondence.  I am happy that I can print and scan ok, but a little disappointed that your diagnostic tool does not run successfully.   Any other suggestions, or shall we give up?

The following resource will help you :

http://123.hp.com/us/en/

Re: PCL Code for envelope size #14

If your printer is a network model (i.e. with 'n' in the model name suffix), then you can obtain the equivalent information for your model that I posted for my printers, using the Status Readback tool in the PCL Paraphernalia application, available via http://www.pclparaphernalia.eu

I suspect that the information returned will confirm that Envelope#14 is not one of the supported paper sizes.

Re: HP ENVY 4500/Mac Sierra v10.12.3 scanning error

It appears to have been a defective USB cable, I replaced it and can now scan successfully.  I'm don't understand why the problem initiated when I updated Sierra from 10.12.2 to 10.12.3, the cable wasn't even disconnected, doesn't appear to be damaged, and it had been working fine up to that point.  Thanks.
