I have tried this but nothing has changed.
My laptop is a new Toshiba Sattelite Pro - approx 12 months since I bought it already pre-loaded with Windows 7 OS 64-bit and when I first installed the printer it has worked ok - ALL functions including Scan & Copying until just the past few days.
I have looked on here for possible solutions, one of which was to re-align the print cartridges which seemed to work for someone else so I gave that a try - I actually replaced both the black and tri-colour cartridges and then received the prompt to re-align:-
"If you have just installed a new cartridge it is recommended that you align it. Click on “align” to align your new cartridge."
I did this and got:
"Follow these steps to perform your alignment."
"You need the page that is automatically printed after you insert a new print cartridge."
I had this and had placed it on the glass copyboard ready for scanning
I clicked the "Scan" button ONCE and the green power button started blinking as it said it should - it also said it would eventually stop and remain green.
I then got a small dialog box pop up saying :
"Finishing the scan to computer..............scanned images will be sent to HP Photosmart Essential"
After a long delay with nothing happening I then had another larger box pop up saying:
"An error occurred while communicating with the HP imaging device – try the following options:"
After each step try scanning again:
1) Turn off and unplug the device, wait 60 seconds, then plug in and turn on device.
2)Make sure the device's power cord and cable are properly attached, plugged in, and the device is on.
3)Reboot the computer.
4) Uninstall and re-install the device.
I followed all of these and still no solution!
At the bottom of the dialog box there was a prompt to "Show extended error information" which I clicked and this is what it showed:-
4,[(0,12,80004005),(2,7,80040007),(3,7,0)]
If anyone out there knows what this signifies please let me know if there is an easy solution. Otherwise I will just dump this machine and buy another. The HP Solution Centre did say that if all the suggestions didn't work then it may mean that I need to contact HP to service the machine. As it is out of warranty and only cost about £40 it would probably cost more than that to get it repaired. Would anyone agree that is the better option??:smileyfrustrated:
