Please try the below step ..
go to the below path :
C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Officejet Pro 8610\bin
then double click on HPSCAN, which should initiate the scanning application. It it does, then right click on the HPSCAN and click on "Send to > Desktop (short cut)"
If the above does not work, then Please download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor from www.hp.com/go/tools
If none of the above mentioned steps work, then you may have to uninstall the printer software and re-install it.
