I have noticed your concern in no longer having access to Solution Center/Toolbox with Windows 7. You are correct. The Printer Toolbox is no longer accessable with Windows 7 however, there are workarounds for checking ink levels.
What Happened to HP Toolbox in Windows 7?
To print a test page:
Press and hold the Cancel button, and then press Color Start.
Release the buttons and a test page will print out.
