I understand the printer won't print and you are in the process of downloading the drivers.
I would recommend to fully uninstall the printer software after disconnecting the usb cable. (if using usb connection)
Then I would run the downloaded drivers. Don't connect the printer until prompted. (if using usb connection)

How is the printer connected? (usb/ethernet/wireless)
Where is the usb connected to? (computer, router, airport, printer shared)
