Re: Printer successfully installed but showing driver unavailable and cannot see it on my network

Tried multiple things including what you suggested enlisted company IT support tried more things.  Gave up.  When the next set of Microsoft updates was pushed to my machine everything started working again just fine.

Windows Security Update KB450903 seems to have been the problem.  This seems consistent with some of the chatter out there on the internet re this problem

, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Are you able to print from your PC or mobile device to the printer?

Have you tried copying in Black and color to check if the issue persists?

Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Report and check if it prints

  1. On the control panel home screen, press the Setup icon .

  2. Press the button  next to the Down Arrow  until Reports displays next to OK.

  3. Press the button next to OK to select Reports.

  4. Press the button next to the Down Arrow  until Print Quality Report displays next to OK, and then press the button next to OK. The report prints.

Check the scanner bar functionality

Perform a visual test of the scanner mechanism to see if it is jammed.

  1. Remove any original documents or photos from the scanner glass.
  2. Lift the scanner lid slightly, and then press the Copy button or icon.

If the scanner light does not move or moves halfway or is not lit, the scanner mechanism is likely jammed/broken.

Let me know how this goes.

Re: "driver is unavailable" after Windows updates, and will not re-install correctly - Win

Thanks for the reply.

I ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor and allowed it to download and install the full featured driver package, but there was no change to the problem. Exact same result.

I root uninstalled all HP drivers, rebooted, and tried to install the full featured driver as suggested, but no change...exact same issue.

I root uninstalled all HP drivers, rebooted, and tried to install the windows built in driver following the linked guide, but ended at the exact same result.

All seems to go well, but the end result is that the printer shows up with the message "driver is unavailable".

I meant to add that I also ran the driver install another time in "compatibility" mode to see if that would change anything, but it did not. same issue.

, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

  • Make sure the printer and the PC are connected to the same wireless network.
  • This printer supports only 2.4GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any network issues

Click here to download the file. Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and click on 'Fix printing'.

If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

Restart the network devices

  1. Turn off the Router, Printer, and the computer/ mobile devices.
  2. Wait for 60 seconds.
  3. Turn on the Router first and wait for all the lights to stabilize.
  4. Turn on the printer and allow it to configure itself.
  5. Turn on the computer/ mobile devices.

Also, assigning a static IP address to the printer may help.

  1. Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to obtain the IP address.
  2. Type the IP address at the top of your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
  3. If you get any security notification, click on show details/advanced and 'proceed to this website'.
  4. Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
  5. Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
  6. Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
  7. Click on the radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)

I solved the problem. The IP address had changed to ***.1.11. When i entered that i got the message that the connection was not private, so i assumed something was wrong. As your ping advice went well, and printing never was a problem, i decided to follow through, changed the settings and the page appeared. Now i don't know why the IP address was altered, and if it is possible to make the printer use the initial one, but thing now are running fine.

Thanks for your support!

OfficeJet 3830 printer/scanner assistant

$

I have an OfficeJet 3830 connected to a Windows 10 system, and do a fair amount of high resolution scanning for my translation work to get good quality OCR results.

I had an HP Printer/Scanner assistant program that I must have installed ~2 years ago when I bought the new system. That assistan allowed my a number of scanning options (pdf, bmp, jpg, gif, tif, tif, png) and worked well for my purposes.

This morning, it stopped working - gave me a message that it couldn't find my printer even. I could easily print from the system, but could manage the scanner.

Thought maybe there was a newer version of the assistant, so went to the HP web site and installed the inaptly named HP Smart. Most of my scanning options were no longer supported. The installation procedure had required that the previous assistant be uninstalled.

How do I get an assistant that gives me access to my printer's full capabilities?

The A4 option on the printer page is no longer available using my HP photosmart printer C6280 connected to my chromebook with usb cable. There are only some very strange options available like omhagaki, om a-6-fb custom min and custom max to name a few. I keep getting a message on the printer saying to push the photo tray fully in.

Are you able to make Photocopies? If photocopies work, then it means the Hardware is fine.

I suggest you create another User Account and check if you are able to use HP Easy Smart

Please follow the instructions in this Link: https://support.apple.com/en-sg/guide/mac-help/mtusr001/mac to create a new User Account

I also suggest you check for Firmware update. Link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02919168

Why do I have to be connected to a network in order to use my printer? I have Spectrum cable for now but who says I want to have a cable T.V. network just to use my printer. This is B.S.

Welcome to HP Community!

In some cases, removing the ink cartridges and resetting the printer can clear the error message.

  1. Turn on the printer.

  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

  3. Disconnect the USB cable from the rear of the printer. If your printer has a network or wireless connection, leave it connected.

  4. Remove the ink cartridges from the printer.

  5. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and from the wall outlet or power strip.

  6. Wait at least 60 seconds.

  7. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

    NOTE:

HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to a wall outlet.

  8. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

  9. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

  10. Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

  11. Reinsert the ink cartridges, and then close the ink cartridge access door.

  12. If you receive a prompt to print a calibration page, do so.

  13. If you disconnected the USB cable, reconnect it to the rear of the printer.

  14. Try to print.

If the issue persists, please upgrade the printer firmware using the steps mentioned here.

Let me know how that pans out,

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows

  1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  2. Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.
  3. Once HP Print and Scan Doctor is open, click Start, and then choose your printer.
    • If your printer is not listed, turn it on and click Retry.
    • If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in the tool.
  4. Depending on the problem, click either Fix Printing or Fix Scanning.
  5. Test results are displayed with icons:

A checkmark means your printer passed.

A wrench means a problem was found and fixed.

An exclamation mark means a test failed and was skipped.

An X means the printer has a problem. Follow the instructions to fix it.

  6. HP Print and Scan Doctor shortcut is installed on your desktop.

HP 8710 immediately gives windows error when printing anything

$

I have just setup my HP 8710 after moving. It is setup wirelessly and two laptops and 4 cell phones can print using it. However, my desktop which is connected wirelessly to my router cannot print. I have tried root level removal of the installed drivers and software. I've tried registry changes and windows32 spool folder renaming. The printer will not print it just gives an error immediately after the document is sent to the spool. I have factory reset the printer and tried turning off IPV6 and it still does the same thing. When I try to print a document from the HP Smart app it says "your printer has experienced an unexpected configuration problem 0x8007007e and hangs on the preview screen. I installed the basic driver package and the complete driver package. I setup the printer using usb on the desktop and then let it connect wirelessly and the same error happens after anything gets sent to the spool. I am at a loss.

I changed the port from WSD to tcp/ip. Not sure why the WSD port didn't work but the printer is working now.
