Re: Universal Print Driver isn't very Universal

When referring to the model 7310, the year (2009) of production was indicated in order to make clear the situation for those reading who may not know every make and model and when it was produced. There seems to be little rhyme or reason for the product model number designations assigned. For example, I used to have the LaserJet 3100, which was produced in 1999 or 2000 or so, and now I have the LaserJet 3050 which was produced much later in 2006-2009. I am aware that software may be not be updated on a yearly basis. The UPD needs to communicate with every device that has been produced for at least the last decade. No doubt there is platform commonality which would make this possible. If I'm using a driver that is called the Universal Print Driver and I hook up my laptop to a printer that was produced in 2009 and I can't print from the device, then what does that say about HP's engineering?
