I have seen that kind of activity but it was on a much smaller scale. Reboot the PC and before pressing any printer icons, uninstall the printer from the control panel. If it will not uninstall, make sure nothing associate with the printer is running in your task manager. If that happens, I recommend the Microsoft Fix It tool.
After you uninstall it, run this file type association software patch to see if that will change the .hta files. Then turn off the computer after this step and turn it back on.
Next, re-install the printer software (click here to access the printer's driver page) and if the program opens like this again, since this is a new computer, you may just want to refresh Windows and try again.
