OJ Pro 8600_Vista_What HP entries should be in Services.MSC?

I'm having problems w/ familiar "scanner communication cannot be established..." error, in Vista x64 w/ printer setup wirelessly.  Prints fine & all network setting, addresses, signal strength look fine.  I installed the full network & software package.

Not my FW causing any problems.  Ran Print & Scan Doctor - final result:  "can't resolve this issue.  Contact support."  May have mentioned something about a driver (but no names).

But started looking in Windows Services.msc - don't see any of the familiar HP services / drivers running - or even present, such as

  • HP CUE Device Discovery
  • HP Network Device Support
  • hpqcxs08
  • Net Driver HPZ12
  • PML Driver HPZ12

if some / most / all of the above (or others) should be present in services.msc, NONE  are.

Nor any of these in config.sys - startup items.

EDIT: Also, very few HP drivers / files under Windows/System32 or SysWOW64.

There ARE several HP drivers in System32.  Even the ones listed in the setup / installer "scanner" folder.  But, no HP entries in services.msc

This was 1st time I installed software drivers for the OJ Pro 8600 printer, so not sure which services / startup entries / files & drivers (in C:\Windows\System32 or SysWOW64) should be present.  If they're pretty much the  same as older all-in-one printers?

If so, there was a massive installation failure (but no hint of a problem - apparently not much of an installation verification check).

IS THERE A LIST (somewhere) OF ALL HP SERVICES, DRIVERS IN WINDOWS (VISTA X64) - to verify their existance after an install / reinstall?

Guessing that on my system, regular installation w/ all apps, AV / FW shut down, etc., isn't going to cut it.  So, if others have suggestions of OTHER things to do, before I reinstall, I'd appreciate it.  Not sure if the HP software & drivers can be installed in Safe Mode?

Doing the same thing, in the same way & expecting different results is definition of insanity.  Which is what HP support typically wants users to do.

Thanks.
