For some unknown reason the printer display ceased to show the options for (1) scanning and (2) showing ink levels. Out of the four original blocks offering various operator options, three and only three remained. The fourth would never come back, even though the Wizard said everything was normal! It was not. The lost capability never returned, again for reasons unknown. What happened that this capability was originally lost??
A minor point here is that sometime in the past I was able to rename the printer to "HP Officejet Pro 8600 (Copy 1)" (I don't know what I did), which made two printer choices appear in the Print Window, with the additional one being the original "HP Officejet Pro 8600". I always used the original selection with no problems selecting options or printing, until that fourth operator option for my HP Officejet Pro 8600 mysteriously went away, as described above, and disappeared. Then (now) I could print ONLY by choosing the "HP Officejet Pro 8600 (Copy 1)" choice!!
And I could ONLY scan by going through the Printer Doctor process and selecting Test Scan at the end. This serves now as my only work-around in order to use my printer for scanning!!
Original loading for my new HP printer Officejet Pro 8600 N911a a year or so ago was very successful. Then abt 6-weeks ago the display option for Scanning and Display Ink Levels just disappeared, never to return again. Wizard and Print Doctor all report success. I can scan only by utilizing the workaround of running Scan Test at end of Print Doctor!!
