I understand you have not been able to use the printer due to communication errors for quite some time, I would like help you get the printer working to best of my ability.
What is the Operating System installed on the computer, Windows or Mac?
For the time being until you get a chance to reply, I would like you to go through steps in this HP document: 'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the Printer Will Not Print. It covers the current Operating Systems for both Windows and Mac.
