Thanks, AzLadyJ, it's good to know that a fresh install of Windows doesn't solve the problem. I just don't understand why this printer installed without any problems initially and then would not reinstall. SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE must have some insight into this, although sadly I haven't found it.
I think you're right, though, about HP not wanting to solve a problem with an old printer. I'm sure they figure that those of us who have probems WILL buy a new printer. I can assure you that if I do, it won't be an HP printer.
Canon has the best customer support I've ever found anywhere. After my camera experience, I'm a loyal customer forever. I think I'll buy a Canon printer and leave my HP blues behind me.
