Sounds like this might be a software issue. I would look at removing the software you have and then re-adding it onto your computer. Here is a link for where you can find those drivers for your system :
Should that not work or yield the same issues, here is another suggestion as authored by one of my colleagues for assigning an alternate driver (you can also look at using the Deskjet 9800 driver):
