OK, I just was able to print something. Here's what happened.
1. I downoaded the 1022 class driver, which the control panel listed as another printer. The P1006 printer was still listed there. I tried to print and an error ocurred in the printing "spool" window.
2. I then deleted the p1006 device from the control panel devices window and I still got the same error when I tried to print.
3. For some reason I unplugged the usb cord to the printer and then plugged it back in.
4. The control panel devices window started to automatically "load" or "scan" the P1006 device for some reason.
5. I made the P1006 the default printer while keeping the 1022 class driver on the device list.
6. Test print from Excel succeeded.
7. Another test print from a pdf worked.
8. I don't dare remove the 1022 class driver.
So, Thanks and Praise God. I didn't really want to uninstall Win 8.1
