Re: HP Officejet 4500 Wireless, Mac OS X 10.9.1, HP software upgrade

Hi rmonk,

I would certainly like to see this resolved, if you are willing to work with me despite my failed first attempt, I believe we can. :)

This may take some patience on your part and some back and forth with me, I would first like to know what exactly happens when you try to scan using Apple System Preferences.

  1. Place the item that you want to scan on the scanner glass, or load it into the automatic document feeder (ADF) if your printer has one.
  2. Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences
  3. Click Print & Scan .
  4. Click your printer in the left pane.
  5. Click Scan , and then click Open Scanner .
  6. Click Show Details . The details of the scan display, including options to change scan settings.

    Clik here to view.

  7. Change any scan settings as necessary, and then click Scan

Do you get an error message, if so what does it say?

is the printer connected with a USB cable or is it communicating with the computer over a wireless network?

Keep in mind, you will not be able to download and/or install full feature software that includes the HP Scan, the OS X v10.9 Mavericks driver for your printer is available through Apple Software Update (ASU). You can still print and scan using the Apple software.

I look forward to hearing from you.
