I have to update my post because of the utter ridiculousness of what I've discovered over the last few days of trying to resolve the problem of not being able to install the full software package to enable the scanning features of my Photosmart C6280 all-in-one. After installing and running the HP Scan Doctor diagnostic program, I noticed that it always failed at testing the twain driver or interface, but passed the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA). At this point I did another complete uninstall, ran CCleaner and AML registry cleaners and an advanced registry editor to remove in references to Hewlett-Packard  or HP from the registry and reinstalled the software. This time the installation went to 100 % and then failed. The error stated "the installation failed due to an unspecified error". I then ran the HP  Scan Doctor diagnostic again. It again failed at testing the twain driver and interface. I tried running it again and this time it failed at the 2nd step testing the driver, indicating the diver crashed during the twain testing. At this point I rebooted the machine and tried using the WIA interface thru Windows Photo Gallery. It worked perfectly as I had read at some point in this forum. I then open Photoshop and tried the WIA interface again, and again successfully. The twain interface was listed in Photoshop, so I tried it too. To my amazement it worked. I ticked the option to use the twain interface and the HP scanning software opened and worked successfully also. I did tried the same operations in Adobe Acrobat. Every thing worked fine. All features worked except for being able to run the OCR software. I Downloaded FreeOCRand installed it. It worked perfectly, solving that issue. So now I have both of my Vista machines doing everything that the  HP software should be doing, only I can't do it using the HP Solution Center and Digital Imaging Monitor. Conclusion - The HP Solution Center and Digital Monitor software is the problem. The drivers work fine. As i stated before, at one point it worked on both Vista machines. Something changed to cause it to begin to fail. I can't say for sure at this point but I would think its a Microsoft update or something they did since it happened to both vista machines. Obviously Hp is not interesting in going back and changing old versions of the software to resolve the issue, its been happening to long with them being knowledgeable of it. They lose money doing that and make money from us buying new updated machines and software. But in the end they'll lose anyway. CUSTOMERS I MEAN.
