Het all. I have just replaced my old HP 4180 with a new Officejet Pro 8600. We have three computer connecting to it and only on one laptop the desktop shortcut to open the printer communication software does not work. I have used the itentical installation procedure on all computers. The desktop has the full package software installed and the two laptops have only the basic print and scan package installed. I have checked the shortcut target on both laptops and they are identical. I have also tried turning off the antivirus and firewall software, but that made no difference - still cannot open the software to adjust the printer preferences, etc.
The laptop in qiestion is an EeePC H1000 running XP 32 bit, SP3. BTW, the other laptop that has no problems is an identical unit.
When I select the shortcut, the hourglass appears for a few seconds, the wireless icon flashes as it appears the software is attemptong to connect to the printer, but the window indicating it is retriving information from the device never appears and thus also the Printer Assistant window also never appears.
There is no problem with printing. Just getting the Printer Assistant to open. Also FYI, if I select the printer in the control panel printer and faxes section, and can get the printer properties and preferences windows, and make changes there, but no way to get the the assistant window.
I have tried to reinstall the HP software package with no change. I also tried a 'repair' and also no change.
Any thoughts appreciated as to what else to look for that may be causing my problem.
