This problem is SO riduclous and frustrating. I, too, have wasted more time than I can adequately account for (over many months) trying to solve this problem. There ought to be an easy patch available for this product, without having to spend hours and hours searching the HP site and forums, trying to figure out what to do. They KNOW there's a problem with this device, and yet their so-called updates aren't making any difference. I feel like I'm running around in circles!
I have also uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times, using my original software and using downloads from the site. Doesn't work. In the meantime, my HP computer (such irony) keeps telling me that my WAN Miniport (ATW) #2 isn't properly installed, and to fix it. I click "fix it". It won't. I go yet again to the HP site, and download the Wizard and the Doctor multiple times. Nothing...
Also, the HP "Solution" Center won't open properly, even though I've completely reinstalled the Photosmart numerous times (and had to go through the registration steps again too -- annoying), and then sometimes the entire printer just drops out of Devices and Printers, even though it was just re-installed.
Come on, HP -- this is ridiculous. The printer and scanner would still work just fine if I could just get my computer (an HP) and my printer (an HP) to recognize each other!
And I love the options when you click the little down arrow next to your own message; it gives you the option to PRINT! If only I could...
By the way, I don't think should even be a warranty issue. There's nothing "wrong" with my actual printer and my computer, for the most part, is working. If the two HP products could talk to each other again, the printer and scanner would be just fine. It's the glitch in the software that's the problem, and HP doesn't offer any easy way to simply update with a fix and get on with one's life.
