yes, have done all the obvious like setting a fixed IP address outside of the range of the DHCP set in the router.
have uninstalled and re-installed the software on numerous occasions.
The HP support website was checked for software and firmware updates. The software available from the HP website is the same version that was supplied on the installation disk... V28.80.1315.0
The computer is a WinXP 32bit operating system.
After reviewing multiple posts in this forum, it appears this is a KNOWN printer network issue that has existed for a very long time.
There is a FIRMWARE update available for this printer. In the text of the support information for the firmware update, it indicates that the update is supposed to resolve network
"Fixes issues in the networking that can cause the printer to become unresponsive"

THE PROBLEM is that THE FIRMWARE update WILL NOT INSTALL
when executing the firmware update it does the following:
1. file extracts
2. then presents the following screen:
3. AFTER "Update" is pressed, the following screen is shown:
4. There are no errors with the printer.
5. Again, the software was COMPLETELY uninstalled. This time, the printer was connected and software installed with a USB CABLE.
Again, the firmware update was tried and the EXACT SAME ERROR occurred.
Does anyone have any idea how to get this firmware update installed?
