Thank you for the reply. I have finally had the chance to try out your suggestions.
I have checked and the problem seems to lie with Microsoft Products. The System Printer Dialog is correct when accessed from Google Chrome and Adobe PDF. I get the problem with all the Microsoft Office applications, and even Notepad. I have uninstalled the software and reinstalled from the location you suggested. The problem still exists.
I have checked Windows update, and I have discovered a "Major Update" which failed to install:
HP driver update for HP Photosmart C309a series
It failed with Windows Update Error Code "80070103". On checking WIndows Help, it showed: "If you receive Windows Update error 80070103 while installing updates, you might be trying to install a driver that's already installed or a driver that might be less compatible than one you already have installed on your PC."
The update is apparently "provided by HP for support of HP Photosmart C309a series" and was published on 15/12/2013. Assuming this information is accurate, then it sounds like it is an out-of-date driver anyway.
Any further suggestions?
