Commentary
I do not know how expensive it would be to replace or repair the printer.
Replacement is the usual option pursued simply because one can usually purchase a printer so cheaply these days.
If you must replace you nice printer because it just won't work anymore, consider the following:
- Printers can be cheap to buy and costly to run: Where "they get you" is in the cost of the supplies - Ink, in particular, can be expensive. Check the "cost per sheet" when thinking about a new printer. A good value means you might pay a bit more up front for the printer itself, but save money later because your "cost per sheet" is low (you get lots of copies per cartridge).
- Cheap printers cost less up front. Less expensive printers can cost you a bunch of money later when you add up what it costs for each copy, that is, how long the ink cartridges last for the number of copies you can get.
If replacement is just out of the question of any reason, you might take your printer to the local Big Box Electronics store and see if they can fix it for you. The fix may be worth the money to you.
