I am curious to hear about your follow-up call to find out if they were able to get your scanner working with your installation. As far as software conflicts, they are all on an individual basis but none are known specifically to cause it. Anti-virus software, on the other hand, can be very problematic and is best to disable it for failing installations. Here is a link that covers the different symptoms of when anti-virus software and firewall causes problems. I have not ran into any problems with IE10 so I do not think that is the problem.

If they were able to help you I am anxious to hear what fixed it. If not, how is the printer connected to your PC? Are you getting any specific error messages like "Fatal Error 1603?" A four-digit error code will be helpful in determining where exactly the installation is failing.
