Thank you for sharing a potential solution for my problem. For me, your potential solution is more work than just living with my original problem. As long as my printer continues to print, I will just close the annoying pop-up each time it appears.

Removing Admin Function on a HP PageWide Pro 452dn Printer
Hi All,
Last year I acquired an HP PageWide Pro 452dn printer from the school district where I worked. They replaced every brand of b&w and color printers with Kyocera printers and then ended up w/ over 100 printers of all types to give away. I grabbed this color printer and now need to get into the admin functions. This printer was moved around so much throughout the district that at some point the login credentials were lost. I thought I could simply reset it to factory defaults but it seems not easy to do. I found a post here on the forums from 2017 where The_Fossette, an HP Support Agent, sent instructions directly to the poster having my same issue. Can someone please send me the instructions to reset the printer thereby eliminating the current Admin freeze on the printer?

When I signed up to do a review on the HP printer, My mind was set on the HP LaserJet 4301fdw. It just so happened it was not available, honestly, I was very disappointed. I actually chose not to take anything else. I’m very happy that I made that decision, the explanation for this is I went out and purchased one. Regardless of what I paid compared to what I would’ve paid if I reviewed it, I’m very very very pleased with this item. Moving on, if you read the reviews on this product from people who are technical experts, their complaints regard connection issues, and signing up for HP instant toner program. It is imperative to read the rest of this article. If you were truly interested in this printer. The most important to understand information regarding the HP4301fdw and the HP4301fdn is that first firmware update the printer…THEN call HP to be transferred to the BUSINESS technical support department. The reason for all of the complaints about the hours that it takes to connect if that even happens is because no one, but the business department of HP technical support can configure your printer. You will definitely want PHP toner program that can cost up to $119 a month for 3000 pages. When you look at this, it’s an actual excellent deal. Keep in mind you purchased a laser printer toner is not inexpensive. The quality of the printing is second to none, if you do not choose the instant in program, it will cost you almost as much each time you buy the toner cartridges as it cost you for the printer. Needless to say advantageous to use the toner program… Absolutely… I spoke to Naveen at HP business who was fantastic. The Direct number for Instant Ink would be 1800 762 3485, then choose INSTANT INK , Then Business / Commercial. I already told him I will have everyone calling him. At the beginning of our conversation, he apologized for the over 12 hours plus that it took two weeks to get the printer connected, but he would be able to solve the problem in 15 minutes… That he did…! After my experience with Naveen, I love HP again… And now that you have been alerted, you will not go through what I went through but this printer and the business/commercial department is fantastic…!!! There is nothing that this printer cannot do. I purchased the 550 sheet additional paper tray, and this baby looks like a monster. There is no comparison to any other printer, and I have looked at many printers prior to purchasing this item. The Laserjet 4301 fdw is flawless…!!!

hp scan capture app. officejet 6500 E709a not working
hp scan and capture app. won't work on win10 or win11 computer. won't find device on both of my newer computers but works fine on my older win 10 computer. I hate to have to buy a new printer.!! Any Help would be Great!!!

Thank you for responding to my post. I tried all four options that you described. None of them worked.
Option 1 (Manual Setup). There is no Setup button on my printer's control panel.
Option 2 (HP Smart App). I downloaded and installed the app, but the app requires bluetooth to communicate with the printer. The Photosmart C4385 does not have bluetooth.
Option 3 (HP Website). I found the Software and Drivers page for my printer. There were no drivers available for download. There was a "Installing Your Printer Driver Using the Windows Built-in Solution" link and I tried that, but the instructions said to "Press and hold the Wireless button for five seconds or until the wireless light starts to flash. Within two minutes, press and hold the WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) button on the router until the connection process begins. The printer wireless light stops flashing when the connection completes." There is no wireless button on my printer.
Option 4 (Compatibility mode). I ran the Setup software from the CD in compatibility mode for Windows Vista. The software ran as expected...up to the point where it asked me to connect to printer to my laptop using the USB cable, so the network information could be communicated to the printer. I connected the printer to the laptop and got a "printer has been detected" message. I clicked Next and after a few seconds I got a "Product connected successfully" message. I clicked Next to complete the setup and I got an Error popup window with the message "The device is not ready". I printed a Wireless Network Test Report from the printer's control panel and it says the Network Name (SSID) was not found.
Please advise.

Once it's downloaded and installed, for Windows 10/11:
(a) Hit Win key,
(b) Scroll down to HP group/folder,
(c) Double click "HP Scan Extended"
You can right click the put a shortcut on Taskbar or Desktop

Missing Toolbox on HP OfficeJet Pro
I'm fully aware that this is an older printer. But my Mum is still using it and is very satisfied with it.
Also, I was using that printer for 10 years ... even if HP often marked it as dead, etc. but with the hidden menu was able to revive it.
Anyhow ... here's the question on the Toolbox, aka Printer Assistant
As already described in this old HP Community Discussion regarding the Toolbox ...
... Same issue again:
The Toolbox would only start (a) after a fresh install (or installed same SW over existing installation) and (b) only one (1) single time you use that desktop link which is linked to C:\Program Files\HP\HP Officejet Pro 8620\Bin\Toolbox.exe.
Sadly, for any reason HP messes then the execution of "toolbox.exe" ... you can even directly execute it from the folder, or even with Admin rights... it doesn't matter.
--> This problem seems only there if you downloaded a newer version of the HP Software package. Of course, I could install the Software from the CD, which I might need to do... but usually the idea is to use the newer Software versions and in the case of Win10 or Win11 users anyhow might be forced to a more recent download.

- I've tried numerous times on multiple device and found this problem again and again. Also, this seems to be a well known problem. So it would be nice to have it actually solved!
- The link on the desktop actually seems to execute: "C:\Program Files\HP\HP Officejet Pro 8620\Bin\HP Officejet Pro 8620.exe" -Start UDCDevicePage
--> Is this actually intended to start the Toolbox? - When executing toolbox.exe from the HP folder directly ... I see 2 different things happening:
(a) sometimes it would execute the Install Program (adding new HP printers)
(b) sometimes it would do just noting!
This leads to a request that is often made:
Please have ALL released SW and Firmware versions available for download, also the older ones!
So users could decide by themselves whether they like it or not.

It's for all printers, it will connect to the internet and install drivers for your printer model.

That printer model requires a connection to internet and registration with your HP account to complete setup and to be able to print. Without that it print's only the information that printer setup is not completed.
